Love the contrast.

If I could take back half of the stupid things that I said, I would have probably said only half as much.

Do you unpot yours after blooming every year as suggested by some?

No, I do not unpot it. I normally repot these into NZ sphagnum late in the dormancy period, before any new root growth begins, but I don't begin watering until after significant root growth. This year was a little different. The summer had been so hot and some of the smaller back bulbs had withered. Also, a short spike, with a single bud, higher on the pseudobulb (female?) had aborted, so I went ahead and repotted this one earlier than normal. The roots on this pseudobulb looked good and the leaves were still green, so I continued watering. Shortly afterwards, this spike formed. I actually prefer these to the female flowers because of the presentation. If I start seeing females in the future, I might repot in late summer to deliberately stress the plant. Mike
