Description
Out here on the left coast (US) the L. anceps are going crazy, at least a month earlier than normal after an unusually warm summer. Now in bloom, in order, 'Helen' x 'Mendenhall' type, var. veitchiana, 'Blumen Insel x Irwins', 'Royal Flush x var. guererro, var. lineata . They are all under 45% shade cloth, hanging over the Cymbidiums. All are either mounted or in baskets, they seem to grow much better that way than in pots. More in the queue at various stages of development... I expect that I'll have at least a few popping out until January

That's a wonderful collection of beauties. I especially like the var. guererro, the only one of my 4 to not spike this year. My var. disciplinata 'lineata striata' bloomed in August for the second year in a row and I have two in spike now looking like they'll bud up any day. A great species and until I saw it with my own eyes, didn't think they could be grown, or grown well, in Miami.

Thanks! Actually, the one that looks like v. guerrero is actually v. guerrero x 'Royal Flush', a v. anceps cultivar ... I have a pure v. guerrero that grows nicely but hasn't bloomed for me (had it for 3 years). I'm going to try drying that one out a bit this winter - I know that variety experiences dry, bright winters nature, have heard that they are just shy bloomers. We'll see... all the other ones bloom with no special effort at all.
