Some of you who were at the Tamiami show heard me talking about a special project I was contemplating for the Redland show. Here's a teaser photo of my "new" orchid hauling wagon. It now goes to another friend who will give it a custom paint job with flames. This is going to be fun. devilgrin The wing is handformed carbon fiber and the wing struts are areodynamic tubing LJ had left at his shop from Darrell Gwynn's last Top Fuel car.

Marching to an entirely strange drumbeat.

Is that contraption on the end for hanging plants?

Pook, that contraption is to keep the wagon stable at speed while shopping for orchids at the Redland showpoke. Ask CJ or Marci about orchid shopping with Chuck. Since I'm a die hard drag racing fan, I thought it would be fun to have my version of a Top Fuel dragster for orchid shopping. The wing just had to be made and when LJ said he had some aero tubing laying around, well......
Seriously, I will use it for hanging plants. That's one of the things I was thinking about when I had my 'vision'.

What was fun was driving back home from LJ's shop. We had tied the wagon off in the bed of my truck. The wing actually stood 3 inches above the cab. The looks from other drivers were a ton of fun. Can't wait to take it down the FLA Turnpike for the Redland show. devilgrin

Looking great, Chuck! I can't wait to see it painted. I wonder how much orchid shopping you'll get done, though - everyone's gonna want to talk about your bitchin' new wheels!

Well, Chuck, there should be enough room in your little red (modified) wagon to stash the plants you talk ME into buying, but where are your going to put the ones I talk you into buying? What I am saying is the darn thing needs a trailer, or a second story.

just make sure you have a decent power to weight ratio, chuck. did you account for a cargo hold full of orchids, or did you do the calcs for the wagon empty?

could make all the difference...

Rich,

I sure HOPE I am headed in the opposite direction! I disliked her intently from our first meeting in 1983. Possibly the worst AOS judge I have ever judged with! And one of the lowest ratings for any AKC judge too.......

I can't comment on Ms. Mary Lou's judging, but she was one hell of
a very nice person. She took the time when she was not well to introduce me to several orchid vendors (Martin Motes twice!) and
help me along when I first began to grow orchids.

I dearly hope orchidists don't say terrible things about you after
you disappear into the void as we all will. As for me, JR says you're
a fine person and I believe him. Do try to be kind once in a while...
just for practice.

Actually I graduated from the school of reality! It irritates me no end when people let their natural sympathy for someone who may be ill and dying conflict with a neutral evaluation of that person's ability in any field. Every time I see that woman's name asociated with any reference to either orchids or dogs, I know it is bullshit. I judged with her and know many others who had to judge with her all the time. Universally, she was held in low regard as an orchid judge.

I couldn't care less what people think of me as an orchid judge either when I am alive or dead. So long as I am ethical and try to stay current, I am well aware that I am discharging my duties to the best of my ability. In that regard I am well-satisfied.

Mary Jane, glad you like the wagon! I stopped by my friend's shop this morning to check on the wagon. It has been painted and is hopefully ready for the flames to go on. The color is Mopar 2010 Plum Crazy. Talk about purple!!

My first car I bought after my Navy days was a 1970 340 Duster that was Plum Crazy in color. Had to make my new ride look like the old.

Looking forward to finally meeting you after all of these years on the orchid forums! Dancin
