I got bite by the orchid bug hard a few months ago. After doing a little research on growing them I decided on LECA and a german made potting system to over come my normal stupidity in normal over or under watering. To my amazement everyone I have purchased seems to like my decision. A few photo...

there are several retail outlets for Lechuza Cubico planters. There are a number of large sizes and a smaller one called Maxicube, perfect for single orchid plants. Online Shop USA is one. IFP Indoorflowerpots.com is another.

So, it is similar to the Semi-hydroponic pots we use but more complicated......... confused

Yes and No.....they are not meant to compete with simple s/h greenhouse plastic pots. They are designer planters that combined with LECA for orchids allow very very low maintenance planter that you can leave unattended for weeks and even months.

They are gorgeous, yes! But, why Lechuza? Lechuza is Owl in Spanish.

I think MOST orchid hobbyists would dislike the price of these pots

I looked all over their website and could not find the price list anywhere! I suppose they are very expensive.

The architectual design planters in the photo I took below range in price from $13 (smallest) to $200 (largest). It really isn't that different in price from an equal size decorative planter. Yes, they are much more expensive than a small simple plastic or clay pots you can buy for a few dollars, if all you want is a container. If you simply are looking for a container to grow orchids in Chula Orchids has a great selection of inexpensive plastic pots to select from.

I bought them so I could blend orchids into my home. I have been amazed at how well all the orchids have adapted and are growing in them using LECA. No brown tip leaves from over watering or drooping leaves from under watering, with all throwing out new roots and growth soon after being potted. My personal experience with keeping orchids in the pots and growing media they come in has not been good.

I just thought some people on the list, not everyone, would be interested.

I think the pots are interesting in that they are more decorative than the regular pots. I think it could work if you have a small collection, but not a larger one. Personally, I don't have the money to spend $200 on a pot. I'd probably stick to putting a regular cheap S/H pot in a $30 decorative planter.
