Notice how all discussion about AOS matters has been dampered down! Just how the hierarchy loves that! The ship continues to sink but all the officers continue to parade around in full dress uniform.
By now, soon to be ex-President Fighetti will be packing his bags for the Tokyo Dome event. At least they have seen the writing on the wall and this will be the 20th and final iteration of this wonderful show. What a disappointment his three years of the AOS Presidency have been!
In jolly old England it is "jobs for the boys". Guess who has been invited to join the RHS Orchid Committee? Here's a clue, their initials are P.F. The RHS Orchid Committee has pretty much lapsed into a similar irrelevance to that enjoyed by the AOS here. Most of them wouldn't know a good orchid if it jumped up and sang to them. In truth they see so few good orchids any more that it doesn't matter what they decide to award.
Dr Wang said it all so well in the last Orchids magazine. Get used to no name or trade name plants because that is the future of the US orchid industry. Wonder what justification there will be for judging then?
The world's best orchid taxonomist gave the AOS a real pasting for their recent weak article on Jewel Orchids. But what can you expect when you have retired MD's practising as professional taxonomists? That sort of amateurish approach will continue to ensure that the AOS's decline only accelerates.....
