I always pay for my stuff w/in 24 hrs. After 7 days, I'm thinking I'm gonna leave a negative feedback thingie. What ya think?

I've only bought a couple orchids from Ebay but I paid for them immediately. Seemed the right way to do things.

Posey, contact Paypal and Ebay about a non paying bidder.
DO NOT leave a negative.......yet.....
Try to get your money first.

Good luck!

Thank you Wendy and Karen,,,lol,,the creep finally paid but did you know this??????

-------------------------------

You've received a payment, detailed below. We’ve placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.

PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay.

Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We’ll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs:

* The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
* We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States.

Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.

Learn more about the PayPal policy for payment holds for eBay items.

We will notify you by email when the funds are released. You can monitor the status of the hold in your Transaction History.

* This applies to US domestic transactions that are shipped by USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either (i) use PayPal shipping labels to ship items or (ii) provide tracking information to PayPal.

---------------------

Oh like for crying out loud, the thing has been packed up to ship since the day the auction ended. LOL.

So Posey, is this a new policy for ALL eBay auctions now?

Seems to me if they want a seller to ship immediately while the funds are on hold...why don't they make it so that a buyer MUST have a PayPal account to enter a bid and then the funds are automatically deducted on a winning bid? That would be more fair.

It sounds to me like there's some issue with your Ebay or PayPal account, OR that the buyer paid via echeck. I would ship the item via USPSdotcom, so Ebay can see that the item is delivered. You might want to make sure you're current with Ebay fees......

posey, you should post the time frame in the auction. i always pay immediately unless i want something else that's offered, so i check the amount of time the seller allows for payment. perhaps you do not state the amount of time you allow for payment?

doing so would give you a better leg to stand on when disputing.

No, I guess its not a new policy. Apparently they do that for various reasons. For me it must be because I haven't sold anything in so long. If you don't have a sell history anytime in the past 12 months they do that. I shipped UPS so it's not that big a deal I guess. Just kinda surprising. They outa have to pay interest on things they hold 21 days too, iMO. LOL.

Good idea Ellen. I didn't do that this time but will if I use them again.

This is what it says, FYI

Why would PayPal hold one of my payments?

To increase marketplace safety, we may hold payments that seem risky. Here are some common reasons for holding payments:

* You have been an eBay member for less than 6 months, and you sell an item for more than $100, or
* You have an eBay feedback score of less than 100, and you sell an item for more than $100, or
* You have a Buyer dissatisfaction percentage** 5% or greater than 5%, or
* You have an average Detailed Seller Rating (DSR) of less than 4.5, or
* You have received fewer than 20 Detailed Seller Ratings in the last 12 months, or
* You are listing your item in a high-risk category such as gift certificates, video games, cell phones, computers or consumer electronics.

PayPal doesn’t hold payments for eBay items if you meet the following:

* You have been an eBay member for 6-months or more, and
* Your total Feedback score is 100 or greater, and
* Your Buyer dissatisfaction percentage** is less than 5%.

Or

* Your average DSR is 4.5 or greater and
* Your have received 20 or more DSRs in the last 12-months
* Your buyer dissatisfaction percentage is less than 5%

How can I avoid receiving an eBay item hold?

Here are some things you can do:

* Improve your DSR feedback rating
* Follow the PayPal best practices to reduce buyer disputes, claims and chargebacks
* Resolve all disputes, claims, and chargebacks quickly

I’m a new seller. Will payments I receive be held?

If you are a seller with an eBay feedback score lower than 100, but you have a record of good performance, you’ll receive payments instantly in most cases.

Posey,
I have been buying and selling on eBay for over 9 years. I have a 100% positive feedback (one negative a couple of years ago that was retaliation for a negative that I provided). I have some hard and fast rules:
Buying:
Immediately after purchasing an item I go to paypal and make payment.

Selling:
I give the buyer 5 working days to make payment (stated in my auctions). I accept paypal only. If payment is not made within the 5 days then I start the "non paying bidder" process with eBay.

Shipping:
Nothing leaves until the money is in my possession (not just in PayPal, but in my possession). I have a checking account (a senior account, so there are no fees) linked to my paypal account. This is only used to sweep paypal money (I use this intermediate account because PayPal has access to it). Once the payment is in paypal I transfer the funds to this "sweep account" and then I use the bank software to transfer the funds to my regular checking account. Once the transfer is posted to my regular account I ship the item.

All in all eBay is a pretty safe environment if you use all the tools that are available. In over 10,000 transactions I have only had 2 bad purchases (scam auctions that never shipped any merchandise), but both of them were reimbursed by PayPal and/or eBay.

I pay right after the auction is finished. But I did have a few experiences several years ago with 'buy it now' items. In one, I won it, I paid for it, and didn't hear a peep from the seller. Finally, a week or so later, I popped him an e-mail. His excuse was that he just renews his 'buy it now' stuff once a month and only checks on it once a week or so to see if it sells -- when he remembers. Crappy, huh?

I've also had a few sellers tell me that they had already sold the item and then I had to wait for a refund.

Since then, when I 'buy it now,' I wait until I hear from the seller to pay for the item. He/she can take as long as they want to acknowledge the transaction; they aren't getting paid until then.
