Once i have framed everything, I am going to cut the post to be level, then add a the last 2 x 4 x 12, cut joints like the photo below and cap it off. I want to do something a little different with the roof, I want the pitch to go down from the top and be flush with the top of the frame and not be squared off, but im not sure it it can be done or how to do it.

I have a book on residential house framing that shows different kinds of roofs and how to do it. You could go look at it at Lowes or I could see if I can photo the pages. The book is called 'Residential Framing: A homebuilder's Construction Guide' by William P. Spence. Chapter 15, pgs 214-226 cover Wood Roof Trusses. It has lotsa diagrams and explains things very clearly.

It looks like the first diagram on pg 214 would work for what you want. smile

Got the sides done today, I will not do the back until I put the gravel in, hopefully I can get a truck to come through the back gate. Ill work on the water and electric next until i get the gravel. I think I am going t use 2" thick Styrofoam for the insulation, since th walls are 4" thick, should I place the Styrofoam on the outside wall or the inside wall?

In a shed it should be on the inside wall with a minimum of 1" airspace to the outside wall. Looking GREEEEAAAAT!!!!!

I do have one question, Kinte: How can you be so damned patient!?!?

When I have built greenhouses, I was so anxious to occupy them that I dedicated every waking hour to them until they're done.

Its freaking hot down here!!!!! Im getting burnt to a crisp. We are having 92+ degree days at least for the next 10 days, its killing me. Its also a financial thing too, will not get the GH fully completed this summer because of cost factors and plus getting married in Nov. But ill have it up and running enough to house everything through the winter.

Gravel, rear part of the frame and the top plate are finished. Now its roofing time, I am a visual person so I am going to bill a model of the roof out of balsa wood so I know all my angles. Hopefully Ill get the roof going this weekend.

I don't remember whether you put landscape fabric under that gravel
or not, but I hope you did. Weeds are an absolute bitch in the gh.
I have a rough-brushed concrete floor in my gh and I'm soooo glad
I made the investment...no weeds and I can just wet vac the floor
when it gets scroungy. I also sealed the seams really well.

Finally, I got some more work done. I ran out of funds b/c my renter is a flake so I had to divert money elsewhere. The door and plastic covering will go on this weekend, then I should be at a point where I can house plants at least for the winter

Kinte, be very, very careful when you start moving your plants into
the new gh. I was soooo excited when mine was finished that I rushed
into bringing in plants waaaay too soon and killed several of my favorite plants. That gh needs to be up and running and temps./
Rh, etc. established before you move one single plant in. If your
plants have been on windowsills move them in stages to adjust
slowly. Trust me on this, dear. angelwings

That is turning into a very attractive little structure. It has a very clean look to it. Will you be adding gutters and downspouts at some point?

I don't remember if you mentioned whether you were using pressure treated wood or not, but if not, I was wondering if you have treated the wood with any sort of sealant or other product to slow down the inevitable rot. It has always amazed me just how quickly wood deteriorates in the greenhouse with the constant presence of moisture - even the pressure-treated woods rated for ground contact seem show the effects much more quickly than one might imagine.

No gutters this year, I am just going to cover it with 6 mil plastic until next season. The wood is preasure treated but I did get some sealant too. I also plan to pant the interior ans all exposed wood white.

Very nice greenhouse! I'm curious - does it have a North-South orientation or East-West?

John...I have been using Deadline for years. It truly is the only one that really works. Whenever I mention this product to my other grower friends, they seem so surprised. I get the stuff from a garden supplier here in Fl. I was told to put 1 pellet every 1 foot. Seems that I was told to wait 7-10 days and put down another application. Do you do that?

No. One application lasts for many weeks. We might be talking about two different products here. What I use is bright blue extruded pieces about the size of a hulled oat grain.....and they have a slight waxy/water resistant texture. I just use a cup to scoop up the pellets and broadcast them as I back up out of the greenhouse.
