I've seen three basic forms of this clone. When I bought this it had no blooms,
but I was hoping it was the one that looked less peloric. I was lucky, and got
the right one. laugh The substance is heavy, almost leathery, and the large buds
take forever to open.

Impresively Cattleya-like for a Dendrobium.

Indeed!

How large are the flowers, Yug? The lip is wonderful.

They're not as big as they appear; for the one that has been open about 3 days it is 3 1/4 by 2 3/4. This looks like the first blooming, though, so it could vary some when it gets more and bigger canes.

On the second thought, these flowers remind me of the vanda blooms they use in Hawaii to make leis.

Yes, a papilionanthe! When I was living on Maui, a lot of people used to have beds of papilionanthe in their gradens, and used the flowers to make leis for various occasions. For an exotic look, they used just the labelum even though such a method took a lot more flowers to make one lei.

Good luck! Although this is a clone, there are various forms on the market. This is the lightest color I've seen, and the least peloric-looking one. Many come out looking like the one pictured in the link below:
http://forum.theorchidsource.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=30;t=008416
Or like this one:

That is fine if you like that type, but I don't find them to be as appealing.

Last bud is now open. Nicest non-nobile Dendrobium hybrid I have. Hope it lives.
